Why Vitalik wants to cap Ethereum transactions

Ethereum 101 for all new children in Crypto:

To come up with Ethereum as a big public computer.

A cat using a computer

People send it a little job – like the transfer of ETH, replacing token or launching smart contracts – And every job consumes a little of its process force.

This power force is called gas – Basically, how much for your transaction it is asking the network.

Now, to prevent anyone to completely fry the system, each block (This is a bundle of transactions added every ~ 12 seconds) has a maximum gas limit – About 30m gas right now. This cap ensures that the block suddenly solves so much work.

But here’s things:

Nothing actually prevents one person from writing a A huge, swollen transaction that eats itself from 30 m of gas.

It’s like walking into a laundry room and finding that one guy took every single washing machine and still waits for a bunch of dirty socks for the second round.

(If you are reading this, at the time of my Prapa from my student dormitory – can both sides of the pillow be warm.)

In any case, Why is it so bad?

👉 leaves There is no room for any other transaction In that block, so everyone else has to wait for the following = things become slower for everyone;

👉 malicious actors could intentionally Unwanted large transactions over and over again for the network of network.

Now, to be clear – That doesn’t happen all the time. Most users and applications come nowhere close to the block limit.

But that cans It happens, and the attackers have shown a willingness to abuse other similar holes in Ethereum.

So Vitalik Buterin and researcher Toni Wahrstättter suggested repair:: EIP -7983that sets a new rule:

No individual transaction can use more than ~ 16.77m of gas (about half a block).

👍 In this way, no only transaction can dominate throughout the block;

👍 Forces large working loads to divide into smaller transactions, which will be easier to handle the network;

👍 holds a network more resistant and honest.

And what does this change mean for you?

If you just use Ethereum By chance, you probably won’t notice even when it goes live – but you will benefit from a predictable, honest and reliable network.

Plus, Hey – It’s another small upgrade that shows Ethereum still growing up, one improvement.
