China’s iris data warning raises red flags for Worldcoin operations

The Chinese Ministry of State Security (MSS) warned that a foreign crypt company collects data on scanning Iris under the guise of token distribution and raises serious concerns about personal and national security.

In the 5th August declarationThe ministry revealed that the company collects IRIS data from users around the world and transmits them to the overseas database. The authorities did not name the company, but warned that biometric information could be used if they fell into the wrong hands.

MSS stressed that IRIS data, like other forms of biometric information, could be used for identity, fraud and illegal supervision as soon as they escaped.

Officials quoted recent examples, including a foreign company whose fingerprint payment system was endangered due to weak security checks. Hackers reportedly approached sensitive user data by violating the company’s internal systems.

According to the Ministry, there is increasing evidence that foreign intelligence agencies have been involved in unauthorized collection of facial and biometric data. These actors reportedly falsify such data for access to a safe environment and perform supervision operations.

MSS noted that this is a growing risk for Chinese national security.

In view of this, the authorities stressed that Chinese law provides a strict warranty around biometric data, including the technology of facial and iris recognition.

The MSS urged both citizens and organizations to follow existing legal frameworks. It also encouraged the public to remain on alert and report suspicious data collection activities.
