In the midst, speculations resurfaced that the mysterious creator of Bitcoin Satoshi Nakamoto perhaps he either worked for the CIA in the US or was kidnapped by the agency, another old story is gaining new attention. Ripple CTO David Schwartz he was reminded that he once worked for the National Security Agency (NSA), the intelligence arm of the United States Department of Defense.
Three years ago, Schwartz debunked the theory that Satoshi was working for the NSA or CIA when creating Bitcoin, offering his perspective as a former agency contractor. At that time, Rippling The CTO has left no doubt that he considers the government’s idea to be sound bitcoin at least plausible, suggesting that it would make sense for the US to deploy such a system before a hostile actor did.
The reminder came after a new wave of attention on his past, with Schwartz clarifying that he was not exposed to any high-level information during his years at the NSA. According to him, most of his role involved making sure the software met the agency’s requirements, which he wasn’t even allowed to fully read.
According to him, one of the only requirements he saw was to ensure that the systems could shut down the processing of classified data if control was lost—a command that sounded paradoxical even to him.
Schwartz also told an anecdote about how his own work unexpectedly appeared on the Discovery Channel, and that’s how he learned that one of his projects was actually being used. He later explained that the same code was used for NATO purposes before being modified for the NSA, although the end use was “pretty boring”.
When asked recently about his nondisclosure obligations, Schwartz admitted he had no idea when or if his NSA NDA would ever expire, joking that he never knew anything classified in the first place.
