With the deadline for TikTok’s US sale approaching, rival platform Triller is taking the opportunity to bolster its own databanks, providing an option that allows TikTok users to back up TikTok content in the app.
As reported TechCrunchnow, in SaveMyTikToks.comyou can link your TikTok account to your Triller profile, which then allows you to download your TikTok clips to the app. This will ensure that they remain available, even if TikTok is eventually removed from the US
Which could be in just a few days, and TikTok is currently on schedule removed from US app stores on January 19under the Senate-approved foreclosure bill.
There is still hope that TikTok could be saved with the incoming President Donald Trump with a request for an extension of the deadlineso that he can negotiate an alternative arrangement, after his inauguration (January 20), while he is a billionaire businessman Frank McCourt also allegedly submitted a proposal for the purchase of the platform from China’s ByteDance.
It’s unclear whether either will succeed, with the Supreme Court set to rule in Trump’s case and the Chinese government still looking dedicated to opposing any sale of the appas a stand against what he sees as American overreach.
China has also made it clear that will not allow the sale of TikTok’s almighty feed algorithm in any case, it is the engine that drives the success of the application. So even if it is sold to an American company, it could end up being a shell of TikTok as we currently know it.
Which means TikTok’s only real hope in the US is Trump, who may not have the power to overturn or renegotiate the law in time. Well, Trump or the Supreme Court sided with TikTok opposition to the bill. Which seems unlikely.
On that note, I would also expect that if TikTok is banned, the company will seek to keep American user profiles and data on its American servers, at least for a while, as it seeks to overturn the decision and make the platform available to Americans once again.
In other words, you may not need a backup tool as such, as TikTok will probably keep your content in the app, with an eye on future returns. And that could happen within a few months, depending on how Trump seems to handle the situation, so it may not be necessary to download and save your content.
But maybe Triller’s option could be handy and another way to give yourself extra security and peace of mind.
TikTok has yet to provide any guidance on how to download your content as it continues to battle the sell-off.
