Three unrelated things have happened in the WordPress world world management system that can indicate the direction of how the content is published on the web. Two development are directly associated with WordPress and has the feeling that the pieces are placed in place.
There is a movement for the construction of a parallel community and infrastructure for WordPress. The goal is to bring stability to WordPress and ensure that the most popular content management system is still the most popular. Recent events relating to the dispute car and Mullenweg with WP Engine have created actions that could use WordPress control of Automattic and Matt Mullenweg over time.
This second approach to creating an alternative WordPress Community has gained great support from Godaddy in the form of a donation of half a million dollars with a non-profit WP Community, a group aimed at supporting an independent ecosystem of an open mushroom mowing.
Godaddy explained::
“Godaddy … I just invested half a million dollars in WordPress Community through a donation to the WP Community collective, the initiative focused on financing and empowering WordPress associates. This financial support will be focused on providing financial, operational and promotional support in more WordPress community.
The collective contribution of the WP community by GODADDY … aims to strengthen the community of open code by providing resources to designers, developers and other associates who make up the Internet. “
What Godaddy Financing makes interesting is that one of the investors in Godaddy, Blackkck, also an investor in the automatic. Black -haired have recently reduced the value of their share of automatticwhich is said to be currently less than one percent.
The second part of the WordPress alternative community is the form of investment that Joost de Valk made in a real WordPress business community founded 15 years ago. The Joost turns it into a non -profit organization and sets it with the Board of Directors.
According to the announcement:
“… We are excited about this community and history that has brought the status of post to the place where it is – the true combination of the WordPress community to which it thinks freely flows, the business is done, and the support is in abundance.
… Over the last few months, it has become very clear that the status of fasting is an extremely important place for the community to gather and talk about all things WordPress. A place with light of moderation, but is a true freedom of speech (within the boundaries of treating all with respect) and freedom to have different opinions.
We want to install those freedoms even more. That is why we (Marieke and I) will buy post status “
Joost de Valk, founder of Yoast SEO supplements, has recently become an open advocate of changing WordPress management in a more democratic model and creating a parallel WordPress structure that provides and stabilizes the distribution of WordPress themes and accessories.
Discussion is underway throughout the WordPress community -the decentralization of supplements and distribution of the topic, so WordPress.org, who control the automattic and Matt Mullenweg, is no longer the only source. Decentralization would eliminate this control of software by multiple channels.
Karim Marucchi (LinkedIn profile), well known in the WordPress community as a leader in Enterprise WordPress Development, wrote about providing a supply chain in relation to the placement of accessories and topics safe and reliable.
He wrote::
“Providing a supply chain and launching modernization
The first step is to act on what the Joost called federal and independent repositories. It is absolutely necessary to show the world that we have the safety of the supply chain. In order to create a community supplement, we should immediately form a group to cooperate between independent associates, several hosting companies, agencies and the wider community of products in our ecosystems. Designed from day one to prevent any job or entity to interfere with the supply chain ”
Joost de Valk recently wrote On the importance of the federal repository:
“We need to complement WordPress.org updates with other sources, so what happened with advanced adapted fields cannot be repeated. Many hosts are currently experimenting or already setting mirrors WordPress.org. This creates problems: for example, it is also actively installed by statistics no longer reliable.
Just have WordPress.org mirrors also does not solve the problem of a party that controls our unique update server. For this reason, we must be sure that these mirrors are watered by each other, and to share each other’s data and, as Karim suggested, enable to host independent accessories and topics there, beyond WordPress.org warehouse. I call this: federate and independent storage, in short: fair.
I already talk to several hosts about it and I would welcome everyone who wants to join these conversations, so we do not duplicate the job. “
Now there is a project called Aspiration This aims to decentralize WordPress that was collecting momentum. Aspirepress intends to become a mirror storage and eventually become a decentralized distributed model, which is expressed by their motto on top of each page:
“Decentralize. Distribute. Democratize.”
Aspirepress is dedicated to truly open source WordPress Community Project:
“Aspirepress is an open code project aimed at community aimed at providing resources and tools to improve the life of WordPress developers everywhere. We are focused on the construction of a packet mirror to freely distribute the WordPress users’ supplements and topics, no matter who or where they are. “
Aspirepress is an example of people from the WordPress Community that take steps to decentralize WordPress so that one entity cannot unilaterally download someone else’s accessories and replace it with your own as Automattic and Matt Mullenweg made the WP Motor Motor a very popular ACF plugin that was fully replaced a renamed version controlled by the automattic.
Google’s founders, Sergey Brin and Larry Page, were students of Stanford University, who at some point decided that it was in the best interests of their company to bring an executive director with experience and that happened. Google’s founders still remained involved in the company, but the place of executive director was filled by someone else who was reliable. Google is one of the largest and most influential companies in the world and is an example of founders who have successfully renounced controls with more experienced hands. So, it’s not like there is no precedent of the founder of a company who successfully handed over control to someone else to make the company growth.
There are other examples in the open code community:
These examples of successful transitions in profit organizations and open code show that change in leadership and control can lead to growth. Three development considered in this article reflects gradual shifts that take place in WordPress, a platform that supports thousands of jobs and generates billions of revenue around the world. The stakeholders invested in the stability of WordPress can see these development steps as steps towards this goal.
