YouTube has announced that all users can now create 3-minute Shorts, which is the last phase of the change announced by u October last year to extend the length of short clips.
According to YouTube original announcementto maximize the possibilities of Shorts and get more content into its increasingly popular Shorts feed, YouTube has extended the length of Shorts, meaning that all videos up to three minutes in length are now eligible to run within Shorts.
That initial announcement caused confusion, since it it did not apply to the older short clipsand would only be undertaken for all future transmissions of less than 3 minutes.
YouTube also rolled out the change in stages, so it was unclear to creators for a while exactly what was happening and when with this update.
But after a few months clarifying updatesincluding a detailed rollout schedule for each element, YouTube has now completed the change, meaning all video uploads of 3 minutes or less will now be registered as Shorts in the app.
???? Creators! We have entered phase 4! Now you can use the short video maker tools to make short videos up to 3 minutes!

Now, if you upload clips that are shorter than 3 minutes, they will appear on the Shorts shelf in your subscription feed and on your channel page. They’ll also be listed in the Shorts section of YouTube Studio, so even if you didn’t intentionally create Shorts, you’ll now also be a Shorts creator.
And more importantly, it will also qualify to be featured in the Shorts feed, which could help increase viewership.
YouTube wants to add more Shorts content to the app, given the growing acceptance of the format and the wider popularity of short clips. Early last year, YouTube reported that Shorts were now driving 70 billion views per dayand with that engagement continuing to grow, YouTube logically wants to get on board with that change and encourage more usage.
Because of this, longer Shorts make sense, and it will also give Shorts creators more capacity to tell a story with their clips.
So again, any clip you upload to YouTube that’s under 3 minutes will now be a Short, whether you intended it or not.
