YouTube wants to make it even easier to create short videos with a new option that will do just that automatically cut out the most attractive elements longer video format into shorter parts.
According to YouTube:
“We’re experimenting with a feature that allows creators to easily cut out interesting segments from long-running YouTube videos and instantly publish them as separate 16:9 videos. If you’re a creator in an experiment, you’ll see a ‘Create Featured Video’ option in the video editor on the YouTube Studio desktop.”
So, in essence, the tool will be able to create short videos for you, based on the elements that drive the most engagement and watch time in your longer clips.
Which could make it easier for more YouTubers to add short clips to their arsenal and increase their overall engagement with the app. Short videos are the fastest growing type of content on YouTube, and it’s on the rise 70 billion views per dayand many creators have been able to expand their engagement on the channel by adding shorter elements.
And now you won’t have to come up with separate ideas for Shorts anymore, YouTube’s system will just create and publish them for you, so you can use Shorts without any extra work.
Although you’ll probably need to do some editing, as you’d expect, too, the cut elements won’t be 100% self-contained in many cases.
But that might be another consideration, and according to YouTube get more and more content in your Shorts feedit will also benefit from making it easier to create more short videos.
If it gets a wider release.
YouTube says the option is currently being tested “with a small number of creators,” only with videos in English.
As YouTube notes, if you’re in the test pool, you’ll see a “Create Featured Video” option in the YouTube Studio video editor.
