Meta Announces New Personalization Elements for Meta AI

While Target ai is on its way to becoming the most common AI assistant, our vision is to make it one of the most operational AI assistant experiences ever created. As you can see in the example above, Meta builds in more personal tracking tools to customize your responses to Meta AI. So if you tell the chatbot that you are, say, vegan, it will remember that in the future and only recommend vegan recipes.

Meta also allows recall from your Facebook and IG profiles for further customization:

Which is cool, I guess, but also kind of creepy, and another reminder that Meta tracks everything you do in its apps, in order to refine and improve its other services.

Which many people have trouble with, which is why Meta now offers explicit controls for ad tracking and preferences. As such, Meta also wants to note that Meta AI doesn’t track everything you enter into it:

“Meta AI will only remember certain things you say to it in 1:1 conversations (not group chats), and you can delete its memories at any time.

Exactly what those “certain” things are, Meta doesn’t say, but basically the system will be geared around refining its responses based on your preferences, so it’ll just be logging details about elements related to those.

Although it could be a lot of things.

I mean, in theory, if Meta wants its AI to be as personalized as possible, it’ll end up tracking your dietary choices, browsing habits, sexual preferences, and basically every other habit you have, to match exactly what you’re “researching.”

And Meta probably knows a lot about you, and previous reports suggest as much Facebook knows you better than your closest human relationships. But Meta won’t build all that back-end data into Meta AI, so it’ll likely be a separate data bundle, built just for Meta AI.

But then again, if the target really wanted to personalize their systems, and users really want that level of customization…

It’s also worth noting that Meta has built massive AI data centers to power that effort, and Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg recently committed $65 billion in AI capital spending this year.

That’s, uh, a lot of data that Meta tracking, what could be worrisome?

I don’t know, it seems like all the previous worries about targets taking massive amounts of data, and using it for whatever purpose they see, have gone out the window now that it’s doubling down on AI, and there’s a market Demand for building AI systems that as quickly as possible to ensure that the US remains at the forefront of technology.

Which may not even be true now, considering the sudden rise Chinese AI helper app Deepseekwhich uses a completely different approach to AI training and data usage, and arguably produces better, faster results.

Meta undoubtedly has the lead in terms of user data, with more information about more people than any other company in history, and this could be a major market advantage for the company. But it would also put Met at risk of further regulation, given past investigations into how it uses people’s data and what responsibilities it has to protect and use it responsibly.

If the meta goes too far, regulators may sound the alarm, especially in Europe, which already limits Meta AI deployment in order to Assess the privacy implications.

The announcement of these new personalization elements is unlikely to alleviate those problems. But then again, maybe that’s why Zuck is so willing to get into the good graces of the Trump administration.

Meta says it’s currently appearing on Meta AI on Facebook, Messenger and WhatsApp in the US and Canada.
