Social media and influencers: 2025 predictions


Social media platforms are portals for deep and meaningful engagement with customers. They are also where content creators and influencers cultivate passionate fan bases. For merchants who want to meet customers where are theysocial networks cannot be overlooked.

Here are some predictions for where brands can find opportunities and innovations in 2025 to gain an edge in a rapidly changing space.

They know that no matter which platform customers switch to, they will have something to say about brands and retailers. This creates an opportunity for marketers to boost customer service on social media in the new year.

“Social media is going to dominate the customer service game,” said Scott Morris, chief marketing officer at Sprout Social.

Morris pointed out that Sprout Social’s Q4 2024 Pulse Survey found that about one-third (35%) of consumers plan to use social media more to get answers to customer service questions. “And this is even more pronounced among younger generations such as Gen Z (49%) and Millennials (41%),” he said.

“With almost everyone turning first to platforms like Facebook and Instagram to get answers to their questions quickly, expectations for speed and personalization have never been higher,” explained Morris. “In fact, 40% of all social media users want companies to prioritize personalized customer service on social media by 2025.”

Merchants who want to keep customers happy will be proactive and address service issues on social media. Artificial intelligence will play a key role in providing answers to frequently asked questions, while more specialized requests will require a human touch.

“AI should be dispersed to drive workflow and automated tasks, while social and care teams should focus on creative content and meaningful customer engagement,” Morris said.

Morris added: “Social media marketing in 2025 should focus on creating immersive, personalized and seamless experiences. With this influx of buyers, AI-driven customer care will play a key role. Brands also need to make their products more discoverable on social media, whether through user-generated content or expanded influencer campaigns. Brands that adapt their strategies in this way will meet consumer expectations and stay ahead.”

Full funnel influencer strategy

Influencers are an effective way to introduce new products to your fans. In addition to increasing awareness at the top of the funnel, influencer content can reach an audience that is ready to buy. And a deep understanding of users on social media platforms can help achieve these lower-funnel results. As a result, more brands will launch full-funnel strategies through influencers in the coming year.

“As consumer interests become increasingly closely aligned, marketers are realizing the need to be more precise with their influencer strategies to achieve attributable results,” said Sean O’Brien, CTO and co-founder of influencer platform Mavely. “In the past, the industry focused primarily on awareness and top-of-the-funnel metrics like engagement and likes. Today, technologies such as artificial intelligence and direct connections between apps enable marketers to enhance the shopper experience and provide more comprehensive metrics that seamlessly drive campaigns from post creation to purchase.”

“Brands will increasingly use creator-driven content to seamlessly guide audiences from trust-building stories at the top to conversion-driven recommendations at the bottom,” said Joseph Perello, CEO of creator marketing platform Props. “This strategic alignment will shorten the customer journey and drive efficiency, making creator marketing an essential tool for delivering measurable business results at every stage.”

Marketers find better segmentation and more authentic connections on Bluesky

Growing awareness of Bluesky’s social platform as an alternative to X will lead to greater brand engagement in 2025.

“Bluesky will stand out for two main reasons: its focus on decentralization and its ability to empower both users and brands,” said Isabel Romero, CMO of social media management tool Metricool.

“For users, Bluesky will be a space where algorithms don’t determine what they see,” Romero said. “Instead, it’s a transparent network that prioritizes the individual experience. This approach will be a breath of fresh air in an ecosystem crowded with centralized platforms.”

Romero added: “For marketers, this means better control over data, innovative ways to segment audiences and, most importantly, a more authentic and direct relationship with users.”

B2B marketers are expanding short social shares

“As traditional social media strategies become oversaturated, brands will focus on engaging audiences outside of their own channels,” said Daniel Kushner, CEO and co-founder of social media marketing platform Oktopost. “In 2025, successful B2B companies will tap into the comment sections of influencers and thought leaders to spark conversations and gain visibility among niche, highly relevant audiences.”

Kushner added: “With 90% of B2B buyers preferring video for learning and 85% of marketers finding it highly effective for engagement, platforms like TikTok, Instagram Reels and LinkedIn will see an increase in short videos that provide industry briefs, updates and observations. In 2025, B2B marketing teams should favor short storytelling by creating tasty, high-impact visuals that entice viewers to explore longer resources like webinars or whitepapers.”

“We’re already seeing the incorporation of artificial intelligence capabilities into a whole range of marketing technologies,” said Natalie Silverstein, chief innovation officer at influencer marketing company Collectively. “I expect to see some major improvements and even brand new jump starts. The pace of innovation will accelerate dramatically.”
